Female MMA on Squidoo

Part of the reason I haven't been doing a lot of updating on the female MMA blog here is because I have been doing a LOT of female mixed martial arts over at Squidoo.
Yeah I know a lot of people don't like Squidoo (or HubPages or Blogger) but to me it's a fast and easy way to write interesting info up and spotlight the fighters that I like.

My most popular Female MMA Squidoo Lens over there is one I did about Miesha Tate called (amazingly enough) Miesha Tate - Female MMA Fighter.
Creative title huh?

Number two, three and four is a series I'm doing about female mma fighters in general and I'm trying really hard to keep up with all the fighters stats.

Of course I have a Ronda Rousey Lens mainly because she is the most dominant force in female mma at the moment.

And of course I have a Cris Cyborg Lens because she was the most dominant force in female mma at the time.

And finally I have one Lens that is basically a table of contents to help you find all my other Lenses.

Interestingly enough...I dont have a single Lens devoted to Gina Carano ....

Liz Carmouche Will Be Making MMA History Too

When Ronda Rousey steps into the steel cage at UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche, she won't be the only one making female MMA history.
Liz "Girl-Rilla" Carmouche will also be stepping into that cage and she too will be making history.
Liz was born on February 19th, 1984 in Lafayette, Louisiana and grew up in Okinawa, Japan.
Though Liz doesn't have the hype surrounding her that Ronda has, you have to remember that in her eight fights, three of her wins were by TKO, one was by submission and only one was won by decision.

Her first pro match was a win over Aleena Albertson via Submission at the NFC - Native Fighting Championship May 29th, 2010.
Liz's last match was a win over Kaitlin Young at Invicta FC 2 - Baszler vs. McMann July 28th, 2012 via Submission (RNC).
Her current MMA record is 8-2-0.

female mma fighters-mma women-women mma

I never thought I would be doing this, but here is the UFC WOMEN'S roster!
Yeah, the place where female mma would never have a home according to Dana White now has a home.
I have ragged him about this but actually I think maybe I should change my attitude and be grateful that he changed his mind.
It takes a big man to admit he was wrong you know?

Anyway, here is the UFC Women's Bantamweight Roster (so far....)

Ronda Rousey (7-0)
Liz Carmouche (8-3)
Germaine de Randamie (3-2)
Alexis Davis (13-5)
Sheila Gaff (10-4-1)
Sarah Kaufman (15-2)
Julie Kedzie (16-11)
Sara McMann (6-0)
Amanda Nunes (7-3)
Miesha Tate (13-3)
Cat Zingano (7-0)

These are all the women that I definitely know are there, not rumors.
If anyone else has any additions, please feel free to throw them in the comments section!

On April 5th, 2013 at the Ameristar Casino Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri they held Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson.
This was notable for several reasons....

female mixed martial arts, top mma fighters, female mma fight

One, we had the return of Michelle Waterson "The Karate Hottie" (11-3) after a six month layoff and she defeated Jessica Penne (10-2).
Both ladies are very popular on this blog with good reason.
They are both lovely AND skilled.
Michelle won via Submission (Armbar) in 2:31 of the 4th round.

Also we had the return of  Cristiane Justino (11-1), who you may know better as Cris "Cyborg" Santos.
Cris defeated Fiona Muxlow (6-3) in 3:46 of the first round via TKO.

There were a ton of other events on the card as well....

Barb Honchak defeated Vanessa Porto
Sarah Kaufman defeated Leslie Smith
Jennifer Maia  defeated Zoila Frausto Gurgel
Lauren Taylor defeated Kaitlin Young
Julia Budd defeated Mollie Estes
Bec Hyatt defeated Jasminka Cive
Simona Soukupova defeated Cassie Rodish
Miriam Nakamoto defeated Jessamyn Duke
Katja Kankaanpää defeated Juliana Carneiro Lima
Rose Namajunas defeated Kathina Catron
Alex Chambers defeated Jodie Esquibel

Coming up at Invicta FC 6...Marlos Coenen will be taking on "Cyborg" to crown the first Invicta FC Featherweight Champion.
That will take place in July of this year.

At Invicta FC 6 on July 13th, 2013 at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, Marloes Coenen (21-5-0) will be taking on Cristiane Justino (11-1-0) who was of course formerly known as Cris "Cyborg" Santos.
This match is the main event and will be a rematch.
The two last fought back at Strikeforce - Miami on January 30th, 2010.

Invicta, female mixed martial arts, female mma fight

To me this match is kind of a deal breaker for Cris.
If she wins, it proves that it wasn't steroids but skill that gave her all of those victories.
But even if she loses, it may just mean that Marloes was better that day.
Ms. Coenen is by no means a slouch.

Who do I think will win?
Please...if you look back at this blog you will see I cannot call a fight to save my life!
I'll just have to wait and see like everyone else.

best mma fighters, mma girls, female mma

The card will also feature almost every major female MMA fighter around that hasn't been snatched up by the UFC (it still feels funny typing that) including...
Veronica Rothenhausler, Rose Namajunas, Lauren Taylor, Jessica Penne, Bec Hyatt, Leslie Smith, Julia Budd and many more.

In the last post I said that on July 13, 2013 at Invicta FC 6, Marloes "Rumina" Coenen will take on Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino for the first Invicta FC Featherweight Championship.
But that's just scratching the surface of what will be going on at FC 6.
There will be 13 matches with some of the best in female mixed martial arts in the world, including four of the top ranked featherweight female MMA fighters.

Marloes Coenen vs. Cristiane Santos
Claudia Gadelha vs. Ayaka Hamasaki
Sarah D'Alelio vs. Lauren Taylor
Leslie Smith vs. Jennifer Maia
Jessica Penne vs. Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc
Joanne Calderwood vs.TBA.
Ediane Gomes vs. Julia Budd
Bec Hyatt     vs. Mizuki Inoue
Miriam Nakamoto vs. Duda Yankovich
Tecia Torres vs. Rose Namajunas
Ashley Cummins vs. Emily Kagan
Mollie Estes vs.Veronica Rothenhausler
Cassie Robb vs. Livia Von Plettenberg

So it looks like on July 14th I will be changing a lot of win-loss records on blogs.....

Yeah I know I am slow doing this but Invicta FC 6: Coenen vs. Cyborg has already come and gone and now Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino is the first Invicta FC featherweight champion.
I imagine there was strict drug testing so yes, The Cyborg did indeed defeat Marloes Coenen, the #1-ranked 145-pound female fighter according to the WMMA Rankings.
And she did it drug free.

But even thought that was the main event, which was far from all that happened that night...

Claudia Gadelha defeated Ayaka Hamasaki
Lauren Taylor defeated Sarah D'Alelio
Leslie Smith defeated Jennifer Maia
Jessica Penne defeated Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc
Joanne Calderwood defeated Norma Rueda Center
Mizuki Inoue defeated Bec Hyatt
Miriam Nakamoto defeated Duda Yankovich
Tecia Torres defeated Rose Namajunas
Emily Kagan defeated Ashley Cummins
Livia von Plettenberg     defeated Kathina Catron

Happy that Jessica Penne won but sad that Duda Yankovich lost.
Well I'm sad that Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc lost too but she was fighting Jessica and unless they had a draw, somebody had to lose!

Fight of the Night went to Leslie Smith vs Jennifer Maia
Knockout of the Night went to Miriam Nakamoto who took Duda out via TKO with knees and punches in 2:08 of the first round.
Submission of the Night went to Jessica Penne who submitted Nicdali with a RNC at 4:57 of the first round.

Barb Honchak - MMA Women

It's been awhile since I did anything on female mixed martial arts fighter Barb "Little Warrior" Honchak.
The last time I mentioned her she had a 5-1-0 record, but now that has jumped up to 8-2-0.
And now Barb is the #1-ranked Flyweight (116-125 pound) female fighter according to the WMMA Rankings.
Barb was born on August 30th, 1979 in Edwardsville, Illinois and fights out of Miletich Fighting Systems in High Ridge, Missouri
She is five foot four, fights at 126 pounds and besides MMA she is trained in kickboxing and jiu-jitsu.

Barb made her pro MMA debut on November 28th, 2008 at KOTC - Horsepower
So far she has defeated Vanessa Porto, Aisling Daly, Bethany Marshall, Roxanne Modafferi, Nina Ansaroff, Amber McAvoy, Felice Herrig and Monica Lovato.
Her only two losses were to Angela Magana and Cat Zingano.
On April 5th, 2013 Barb defeated Vanessa Porto at Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson to become the first Invicta FC Flyweight Champion.

Outside of MMA, Barb has a Master's Degree in both Ecology and Genetics and a Bachelor's degree in molecular biology.

Lena Ovchynnikova - Female MMA Fighter

One of the most popular ladies on this blog is the beautiful Lena Ovchynnikova.
Yes beautiful, but deadly too.
She was born on April 22nd, 1987 in Lviv, in the Ukraine, stands 5'6 and weighs in at around 125 pounds.
Lena made her MMA debut on September 9th, 2006 and she has a 9-2-0 MMA record.
Before that she was a Kickboxer and also found in K-1 rules matches.

Her first MMA fight was a win over Svetlana Svetlana at IGF - International Gala Festival via Decision (Unanimous).
Out of her nine wins, seven were by submission and two were by decision.
She seems to prefer the armbar, but has gone to the Guillotine Choke and RNC when needed.

Lena's last fight was a win over Fathia Mostafa at SFL 16 - Super Fight League 16 on April 26th, 2013 via Submission (Guillotine Choke)

MMA - Invicta FC 7: Honchak vs. Smith

Last night was Invicta FC 7: Honchak vs. Smith at the United States Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.

There was a ton of good fights and to quickly recap....
Barb Honchak defeated Leslie Smith
Lauren Murphy beat Miriam Nakamoto
Tecia Torres won over Felice Herrig
Joanne Calderwood defeated Katja Kankaanpää
Julia Budd beat Charmaine Tweet
Vanessa Porto defeated Zoila Frausto Gurgel
Tonya Evinger beat Sarah D'Alelio
Nina Ansaroff won over Munah Holland

The Barb Honchak vs. Leslie Smith fight was awarded "Fight of the Night" and Nina Ansaroff earned "Knockout of the Night" in her victory over Munah Holland.
And the bout that won "Knockout of the Night" was on the Preliminary Card.
I imagine that Nina "The Strina" Ansaroff will be moving up in the rankings....

Julia “The Jewel” Budd - Female MMA Fighters

One of the coolest things about doing a blog like this is being able to watch stars rise.
Case in point,  Julia “The Jewel” Budd.
I did a write up on Julia back in 2012 when she was only 3-2-0.

Now she is ranked number three on the Unified Women’s Mixed Martial Arts Rankings for Featherweights, right behind Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Marloes “Rumina” Coenen.
And now Julia has a 6-2-0 record...meaning she has not lost a fight since I did that write up in 2012.

She recently had a Unanimous decision win over Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 7 - Honchak vs. Smith on December 7th, 2013.
And pretty soon you can imagine that she will be facing either Coenen or Justino.

You know sometimes I get too carried away with myself.
I miss a lot (okay...almost all) the fight predictions.
But sometimes I can actually call them.
Case in point is Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak.
I did a write up on her way back on October 11th, 2011 and now she is the the number one ranked Flyweight fighter in the world by MMARising.com.
In the first article she was 5-1-0 and today she is 9-2-0.
Oh yeah....and she is number 6 in the Top 15 Women’s Pound-For-Pound MMA Rankings there as well.
It just feels good to point out someone like that and see them go to the top.

Ronda Rousey Wins Again

The evidently unstoppable Ronda Rousey won again last night.
She defeated Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in sixteen seconds of the first round via KO.
She hit Alexis so hard that she busted open her hand and had to have nine stitches to close it.

Ronda Rousey Wins Again

Left hook, knee, headlock, throw to the mat, pound, game over.
Sixteen seconds.

Whats next?
Unfortunately it looks like knee surgery.
But it appears to be very minor and hopefully all will be well.

The UFC list of female fighters has REALLY grown.
Before Dana White became Ronda Rosey's smitten kitten, he swore women would never fight in UFC.
Though he happily used Gina Carano to promote his stuff.

But now the UFC Women's Bantamweight roster has 27 fighters on it.

Of course the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion is Ronda Rousey.
